Dear Friends,

The New York League of Puerto Rican Women, Inc. is delighted to welcome you to our website.

We are proud to announce that on May 12, 2012, our President, on behalf of the League, was one of 100 Persons, throughout our Nation, who received the NECO 2012 Medal of Honor Award on Ellis Island.

We are also proud to announce that the League made history by being the very first Puerto Rican/Hispanic women’s organization to be recognized and honored by the New York Yankees. The League was presented with their 2011 Hispanic Heritage Month Community Achievement Award In Education, in an on-field ceremony at Yankee Stadium held on September 20, 2011.

This recognition of the League, underscores our commitment to the League’s mission to assist Puerto Rican women in their quest to obtain a college degree. The League is the only organization in New York State and in the entire northeast region, whose focus is the Puerto Rican woman and her ability to provide a better life for herself and her family through higher education.

The League strives to offer, annually, College Awards of $1,000.00 each to Puerto Rican undergraduate women selected for their academic excellence and service to the community. We do this by depending solely on the support and generosity of the community, since we do not receive any government grants.
Our goal is to increase the number of College Award recipients each year. In order to do so, we look to the generosity of our friends, members, supporters, donors and sponsors to accomplish this goal. The League asks that you spread the word throughout the community about our College Awards Program so that all eligible students can apply.

At the League’s College Awards Gala Dinner Dance held on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Marina Del Rey in the Bronx, we continued to uphold our tradition by providing financial aid to a record ten Puerto Rican women in support of their higher education.

We welcome you to explore our website for information on past College Award recipients, Gala Dinner Dances, and the Sponsorship/Donation Form and College Award Application Form, both of which can be downloaded.

We encourage you to join the League in support of our College Awards Program, as a Member, Sponsor and/or Donor and to participate in our activities. No donation is too small.
We trust that you will continue to be one of our loyal supporters, and please accept our heartfelt thanks for your gracious generosity.

P. S. Do you recognize our guest celebrity above?
Con Cariño,
Edith Padilla, President
